Who We Are
Wicked Jungle is an online community of Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Readers and Writers. Our mission is to promote and cultivate the creative talent in the genre by providing a place for writers to connect with readers.
What You Should Know
We are not your traditional online magazine.
Though we publish fiction of a variety of lengths, along with other relevant content such as book reviews and general news, we do not publish these works on a cyclical basis, (weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.). Instead we choose to provide content as it is created by our contributors so that readers have an ongoing supply of new material to read.
We do not have an ongoing submission process.
Whereas most short story markets solicit and purchase stories on an individual, case-by-case basis, based on the merits of the individual story, we focus our time and energy on developing new and talented authors with fresh voices. Twice a year we will have an open call for new contributors. We will invite the most talented and promising writers based on the sample of their work and to become a regular contributor and post stories on a monthly basis for Wicked Jungle. This approach is unheard of, we know. But a central component of our mission is to provide new authors in the genre with a market for short fiction (from micro-fiction to serialized novellas) and an audience who will appreciate and enjoy their work. We believe that an author’s success with their first novel is heavily dependent on three things: (1) exposure, (2) publicity, and (3) reader fan base. At Wicked Jungle, we are providing writers with an opportunity to address all of these components prior to releasing their first novel, during the early stages of their professional writing career.
Our contributors have various levels of publishing experience.
We look for talented writers in the genre of paranormal romance and urban fantasy regardless of publishing experience and encourage any interested writers to apply to be a contributor during our open selection periods. We anticipate many of our writers will be in the early stages of their professional writing career, however even if you have already sold your first or second novel, Wicked Jungle provides a unique opportunity for you to gain exposure and publish shorter works in between novel release dates. We also hope that as you progress in your career, as a former contributor of Wicked Jungle, you will continue to be involved in our community by participating on our guest blog, doing interviews, providing contest opportunities for our readers, and of course sharing any fun short stories!
Applying to be a Contributor
We do not accept unsolicited manuscripts for publishing. We only publish fiction online from our regular contributors (excluding novel excerpts). To learn more about becoming a contributor visit the submission guidelines page.
